My
memento project is inspired by my mom. She is a strong, stubborn, and loving
woman. As I get older I know where a lot of my characteristics now come from. When
I was 19 years old my mom was in a car accident and it left her very beaten up.
The whole left side of her body was broken, she could not walk for eight weeks.
I decide to drop out of school and quit work to help take care of her as well
as my other family members. Since we lived in a two-story house she could not
walk upstairs and bathe. So instead I washed my mom’s hair in the kitchen sink.
This is the reason for the hair in the center of the block. I also left the
inside of the block ridged to represent the stairs she could not walk up. The two
blocks of wood signify both my mom and me. The hinge that connects those to
pieces represents the connection we now share. This memento is close to my
heart and reminds me of one the hardest times in my life.
