Artist Statement
For
the first balsa wood sculpture, I wanted to incorporate texture. I made cuts
into the wood in opposite directions to create the texture I was looking for. In
addition, I wanted the piece to look as if it were crumbling to the ground. I
used the rolled-up tape and pins to create a downward effect. As for the second
sculpture, I wanted to create a clean and simple design. I wanted it to have symmetry
and space. I divided the two end pieces of wood by a thinner piece of wood to
achieve this symmetry as well with the dried hot glue circles. For the top I
wanted to create space by twisting the white paper.
